Highland Cattle

The Phillips Park Zoo has two female highland cows, April and Leslie. These charismatic cattle have called the zoo home since 2020. 

Cattle are grazers, primarily eating a diet of hay and grass, but they do enjoy treats from their keepers such as carrots, lettuce, and apples. 

Native to the Scottish highlands, these cows are well adapted to Midwest weather and are considered one of the hardiest breeds.
